Tourism and Major Events Minister Tim Holding has announced the outgoing Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF) Managing Director Christopher Brown has been appointed to the Tourism Victoria Board.

Mr Holding said Mr Browns significant experience within the Australian tourism industry makes him an ideal addition to the Boards already extensive expertise.

Mr Brown has forged an impressive career within the Australian tourism sector and brings with him substantial industry expertise and knowledge of the issues facing tourism operators, Mr Holding said.

Mr Brown has over 20 years experience dealing with all levels of government and key industry bodies such as Tourism Australia and state tourism authorities.

He is the founder and outgoing Deputy Chair of Infrastructure Partnerships Australia and founding Director of the Greater Sydney Partnership.

I am delighted that Mr Brown will join the Tourism Victoria Board and I look forward to his contribution in helping strengthen Victorias vibrant and diverse tourism sector.

Mr Brown will step down from his role at Tourism & Transport Forum and Infrastructure Partnerships Australia, in February 2011.

Mr Holding said Mr Brown joins the Tourism Victoria Board at a time when Victorias tourism industry is outperforming other parts of Australia.

Melbourne is attracting more interstate tourists than any other Australian city and many of Victorias regions are experiencing growth in interstate and international tourists, he said.

Melbourne has also been named the most popular Australian city for shopping, theatre, world-class food and wine and the best sporting and cultural events.

However, there are a number of ongoing challenges facing the tourism industry including the continued management of bushfires in regional areas, changing consumer spending patterns and an increase in Australians travelling overseas on cheap airfares.
